Pat left back to the US. We miss another bright lady. She had been the principal of a high school before she came to Japan. She is a well-organized person on her time and activities. Her schedule in the last few weeks in Japan was arranged to the second.   On her last Thursday in Hiroshiam, she briefly dropped in at the class to see everybody. It was before the class started and nobody was there yet.  While she was waiting, she prepared the containers and water for other students as usual and had to leave after seeing only a few students. That is Pat.

Dear Eiko sensi,

I grew up in and then kept a home where there was always a bunch of daisies from the road

side or a sprig of red berries set on the table or sideboard. Flowers and their beauty have

always been a part of my world. But, it was your ikebana classes that have helped me to

see flowers and branches as an art media. Dimension, proportion, color palette, when

considered, change the ordinary bouquet into an arrangement that communicates strength

and purpose as well as beauty.

I thank you for sharing your knowledge for I have learned so much. As with so many

things, once you have begun to really understand, you realize how much more you have to

learn. My "eye" has changed and I will remember to "align my tip with my base" as I

continue to work with flowers.

Sincerely,

Pat MacIsaac

Pat applied her skill and knowledge she learned in Japan to the materials from her neighbor.  Amazing !

The first lesson day after the summer vacation was the last Ikebana day for Katy......

Her husband got transfer back to England with a very short notice.   It was so sudden and Katy's family had many friends and their time left here was so tight that we could not find time to hold our class farewell for her.

Katy gave birth to her son, Thomas, during her stay here and Hiroshima must be a special place for her family.

We miss another bright and talented lady in our class.  Please keep arranging flowers so as not to lose the skill you have gained here.

May Happiness and health be with you and your family!

Dear Ikebana friends,

I have to leave Japan now to return to my home country the U.K..  Rak, Thomas & I have had a wonderful time here and met many special people.  One of the greatest gifts I have gained is an appreciation of Ikebana and flowers, through our truly wonderful, gifted teacher, Eiko Suzuki.  I hope to continue to learn in England and hope you, my friends will all stay in touch & come visit with us.

There are many wonderful gardens in the U.K. that we can share.

Thank you

Katy

December 2000

Lyn left  for Michigan on 14th of December.  We had to say goodbye to another warm and nice friend.

Wishing her a merry Christmas and a great year of 2001.

"For two years now, Thursday has been ikebana day and I've learned so many things; not only a whole new way of ' seeing ' flower arrangement but also, patience! most of all that I still have much to learn.

Thank you Eiko sensei for sharing your knowledge and experience.  I have wonderful ikebana memories to take home with me and I will watch for your web page each month to keep up to date with you all-"

Jennifer went back to her country, Australia.

Jennifer is one of the most elegant ladies.  I learned much from her about how we should behave on the various occasions.

To all my Ikebana friends, I am leaving Hiroshima after 6 1/2 years.   This is a very sad time for me and my husband.

Eiko has over many years tried to teach me some facts about Ikebana.   She is an excellent teacher and I am still a learning student. The friends I have made will live with me wherever I am in the small world.

Please keep in touch.  See you all in the future.

Miss you

Jennifer

Gerrie moved to Bangkok because of her husband's transfer.

Gerrie is a bright  and warm lady and has great leadership in any field.  She served as president of the Hiroshima International Women's Club  last year successfully.  She was like a mother in the Ikebana class, and all of us love her very much.  We miss her.......

Thursday has always been a special day for me.  Even when I am not in Hiroshima, Thursday will always be Ikebana Day.

Love,  Gerrie

We had a woderful visit by Bev and her friends, Helen and Jackie.

How exciting to return to Japan and to Ikebana class.  Having the opportunity to learn from Eiko-sensei producies a bridge to understanding the Japanese culture.  It is an art of beauty, grace, and order.

Most enjoyable is talking, laughing and learning from each other.   Thank you Eiko for all you have given us and how you have enriched our lives.

It's good to be back!

Bev
