Do you remember the third lady from the left? She was in the class four years ago. Her appearance in the class was a happy surprise!
Congratulations!
The last lesson day for her in Japan was the 43rd wedding anniversary, we had heard. We celebrated their important day(!) with yummies and presents of 43 Origami-folding paper cranes. At the end of the class, her husband appeared to meet her.
A very nice couple
The Beautiful Season for Hydrangeas
Sad to say, but this was the last lesson here for the two ladies this day. Three from the class are leaving by July. We held a farewell party for them. The party was really wonderful. Photos from the day are here.
When we get a guest to the class, we often take a photo. The lady on the left edge is from California. She said that her boyfriend had found this class through the internet. I learned the site is seen by many people in the world. She enjoyed the class and left with beautiful smile.
< 千客万来:many visitors from various countries > The new school year starts in April in Japan. The class had many visitors in and out.
Do you remember the lady in the center? She left Hiroshima one and half a year ago. She visited Japan and China this time. She came by to see us despite her tight schedule in Hiroshima.
We were very happy to see her gorgeous smile again here in Hiroshima. This is her first visit in five years. She joined us in congratulating our youngest student on her obtaining the first certificate.
We had guests from Holland, Australia and Hawaii this day. I am always glad to see my students bring their guests to the class and demonstrate their talent for ikebana to their guests.
A student brought two French guests, a college student and his mother. He studies Japanese literature in Tokyo now. He spoke beautiful Japanese and I learned that he had started learning Japanese in France. I asked him why he had chosen Japanese language among various languages. He said that he had been fascinated by the world of Yasujiro Ozu, the movie director in 1940-50th. I wonder how many Japanese youths know the name of Ozu, much less Ozu's world. I was highly impressed by the fact that the Japanese sensibility found in the Ozu's movies attracted this bright French young man to the extent of bringing him to Japan !
Probably the youngest students I have ever had.
February 2010
She will move to Shanghai, not going back to her country Germany. The other lady will go back to Hungary after staying the New year holidays in Japan. http://shinonome.kouke.googlepages.com/ The other two ladies will leave Hiroshima in April and in June respectively. Gee, only three and a baby in this picture will be left in Hiroshima in July...
She started her college life in Tokyo, with the certificate of Ikebana. Bright future to her!
June 2009
Congratulations on her achievement of the certificate. During the session's winter recess in 2010, she practiced at the afternoon class every Thursday. There, she had to do all by herself from choosing materials to finishing an arrangement. That experience must have given her much improvement as an ikebanist.
They achieved the level required for obtaining the certificates. Congratulations!
Sometimes the longer experienced student helps the younger one.
March 2009 It was someone's sixtieth birthday! We sang 'Happy Birthday Song' and she shared Japanese sweets among class mates. Sixtieth birthday is the special happy day for the Japanese people. We wish her another happy and healthy years in the future.
Do you remember these ladies?
They were in my class some 20 years ago. The Ohara ladies in Melbourne held an exhibition in March 2009. I visited them with some ladies from Hiroshima to support the exhibition. I met many friends from good old days as well as those who recently went back to Australia. More reports from the trip is seen here.
Gee, they appeared like twins in the same color on one early winter day. What a happy accident!
